A man attacked a doorman and the manager of a Clitheroe bar in a grief-fuelled drunken rage.

Blackburn magistrates heard Daniel Kirk Harwood also assaulted two police officers by spitting in their faces.

While he was on bail for those offences he was caught driving while disqualified.

Harwood, 32, of Hope Street, Great Harwood, pleaded guilty to two charges of assaulting an emergency worker and two charges of assault arising from the incident at Rumours bar in Clitheroe.

He pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, without insurance, obstructing a police officer and failing to provide a specimen for analysis from the second incident.

He was jailed for six months and disqualified from driving for six months. The court heard Harwood was involved in a fight in Rumours and staff tried to break it up.

A doorman was headbutted, causing a split lip, and when the bar manager intervened he was punched twice to the genital area and also suffered an eye injury.

Police attended and he was aggressive and told them if they came near him he would hit them. He threatened to break one officer’s nose and then spat in the faces of two of them.

When he was stopped in Swinton, Harwood initially gave false details and then refused to provide a sample for analysis.

Janet Sime, defending, said that prior to the incident in Clitheroe the defendant’s friend had died in a car crash and he had been to the scene before going to the bar drinking.

“He can’t remember assaulting anybody but says he is sorry,” said Miss Sime. “It was a very difficult time for him following the death of his friend and he clearly needs some counselling.”
