A nursery in Burnley has retained its Good rating from Ofsted following an inspection over the summer.
Giant Leap Childcare and Learning Centre, in Coal Clough Lane, Burnley, was visited by inspectors in July, who handed it a good rating.
The huge nursery - which has more than 200 children and 55 members of staff - had been rated good previously in 2021, and this time inspectors praised the setting as a “hive of activity”.
The report said: “Children flourish at this welcoming nursery and clearly enjoy the time they spend here.
“They continuously demonstrate they feel safe, happy and content. The nursery rooms and extensive outdoor areas are a hive of activity.
“Children's voices and laughter can be heard throughout the day, as they excitedly explore and investigate with confidence and enthusiasm.”
Behaviour is good, Ofsted noted, and “respect, tolerance and acceptance of others is taught by patient and sensitive staff, who are good role models”.
Promotion of children’s independence and acknowledgement of their kindness to one another was also praised.
The curriculum was praised as “broad and balanced and building on what children already know”, and the children’s physical skills during outdoor play were noted as “excellent”.
Inspectors said: “Staff offer children an abundance of praise and encouragement.
“This successfully promotes high levels of self-esteem and encourages a positive 'can-do' attitude to learning and trying new things.”
Language skills teaching was highlighted as a strength, with older children asked thought provoking questions and encouraged to share ideas, which means children become “skilful communicators”.
Support for children with special educational needs or disabilities is good, as is safeguarding.
Ofsted added: “The management team are knowledgeable and dedicated.
“They lead a team of enthusiastic staff and it is clear that children are at the heart of everything that they do.
“Leaders and staff reflect upon and evaluate their practice and continuously strive to achieve the highest possible standards.
“Parents are extremely complimentary about the nursery and staff team. They describe the nursery as a 'special place that stands out from the rest'.
“Leaders recognise the importance of valuing staff's well-being. Staff morale is high and they feel appreciated and listened to.
“Professional development opportunities are carefully considered and have a positive impact on outcomes for children.”
To become outstanding, the nursery was told to “strengthen the knowledge and understanding of less experienced staff with regard to the overarching curriculum intent, to enable children to make even better progress”, and to “better support staff so they have a thorough understanding of how they can consistently manage transitions and routines”.
