A teenager from Blackburn is preparing to walk on a runway at a fashion show in London today (September 16).
Lexi Griffin, 14, is preparing to model clothes and rock the runway at House of iKons’ Fashion Week London, which celebrates the new generation of global fashion talent.
Lexi has been walking the catwalk since she was seven, making appearances at New York Fashion Week and beyond.
She is delighted to have this opportunity to walk for designer Jhay Layson.
Her mum, Sonya Griffin, said: “After Lexi walked for Adrianna Ostrowska the previous year, Jhay Layson - an emerging fashion designer - approached her and asked if she would walk for him in his upcoming event. Of course she said yes.
“Lexi is thrilled to be returning to the runway.
“Lexi has gained experience by walking on international runways at New York Fashion Week, Cosmopolitan Top Model, and The Society Fashion Week for international designers MM Milano and Adrianna Ostrowska in addition to walking for a number of designers during London Fashion Week, including Be Unique Be You.”
Lexi, a Darwen Vale High School pupil, suffers from social anxiety but this melts away on the runway.
Sonya said: “Lexi suffers from social anxiety, but when it comes to walking the runways she draws inspiration from other models, and takes pride in every step she takes.
“With each step she makes, she embodies the designers' vision to create a genuinely unique and iconic runway walk.
“Nothing is more radiant than the confidence in her stride and there is no better way than to captivate the audience by holding yourself high and being confident.
“As with anything, practice makes perfect! Although it may seem like an easy task, walking down a runway in front of a ring of steel and hundreds of spectators is quite intimidating and takes real skill.”
The former Meadowhead Junior School first started modelling in order to build her confidence.
As a young child she lost her father and was often bullied in school.
Sonya said: “She would often say when she was younger ‘when I grow up I want to be a model and I want to be an actress’; because all kids have dreams I will encourage my children to chase their dreams until my last breath.
“I decided to take her to a photoshoot in London, to show her she can still be a model if she wants to be and to just believe in herself because I believed in her more than anyone even if she didn't feel that way herself. She loved the experience.”
