A Reel Cinema has officially opened in Burnley and it looks like customers had a great time on opening day.
Reel Cinema opened its luxury seven screen cinema at the £23million pound Pioneer Place, on September 8. The cinema moved from its former site in Manchester Road.
A spokesperson said it was the number one cinema across the Reel cinema circuit last weekend and the best performing films at the cinema were The Nun II, The Equalizer 3, and Jawan.
On Tuesday, September 12, more than 160 guests, including many of those who worked to make Pioneer Place a reality, gathered to enjoy a Bollywood movie, and a film The Miracle Club which goes on general release next month.
Food and refreshments were provided by Burnley Leisure.
Reel Cinemas director Sunil Suri said: “As Reel Cinemas opens its doors in Burnley's Pioneer Place, we're thrilled to offer a space where the people of Burnley can gather, whether to watch a film or simply to spend quality time together.
“We’re proud to be the “Reel Heart of the Community” offering memorable experiences that don’t break the bank nor compromise on quality.
“We'd like to extend our gratitude to all the organisations who worked together to transform this vision of developing a leisure complex in the heart of Burnley into reality.”
Burnley Council leader Councillor Afrasiab Anwar said: “It’s brilliant to see the new cinema, and the other businesses on Pioneer Place, up and running and attracting crowds through their doors.
“There’s a real buzz to the area and it’s attracting more people to that side of the town centre.
“I’d like to thank all our partners who worked together to make this new development a reality. Pioneer Place might not win an Oscar but it’s going to be a real blockbuster!”
Pioneer Place is expected to create around 100 new jobs.
Debbie Francis, chair of the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership, said: "It's fantastic to see how the LEP's Growing Places Fund continues to support schemes like Pioneer Place.
"The opening of the Reel Cinema will not only create new jobs locally, it will also help generate footfall which many other businesses will benefit from, adding significant value to Burnley's wider retail, leisure and hospitality offer in the process."
County Councillor Aidy Riggott, Lancashire County Council’s cabinet member for economic development and growth, said: "Pioneer Place is an important project for Lancashire and a brilliant example of the power of strong partnership working.
"The opening of Reel Cinema is a significant milestone for Pioneer Place, which will bring significant regeneration to this part of Burnley town centre.
"The cinema is looking fantastic and I would encourage people from Burnley and farther afield to come and see for yourself."
Sophie Clark, engagement and communications co-ordinator at boohoo, said: “Pioneer Place is set to bring so many great benefits to the town.
"We couldn’t wait for the grand opening. Our colleagues can now start using all the facilities which scheme has to offer!”
Pioneer Place forms part of a wider town centre masterplan to attract millions of pounds of investment into boosting Burnley town centre.
It follows investment in improvements to the town centre, the creation of a Heritage Action Zone, and the council’s purchase of Charter Walk shopping centre to help secure its future.
