Firefighters have concluded their investigation into a Burnley pub fire which “destroyed” the venue.

A fire broke out at The Turf Pub, in Yorkshire Street, on Thursday, August 31.

Firefighters spent around six hours tackling the blaze.

According to a statement issued, the pub was “destroyed” by the fire but all staff and tenants were unharmed.

The fire service has now concluded its investigation and ruled the fire was believed to have been accidental.

John McDonald, director of AJP Pub Group, issued a statement on behalf of the pub.

The statement said the fire was caused by an extraction fan which caught fire at the premises.

The statement said: “At the moment I don’t know how to put into words the devastating news we have had today, we have had a fire that has destroyed the pub.

“An extraction fan caught fire in the premises and caused catastrophic damage to the venue.

“Thankfully everybody got out the venue safely and arrangements are already in place to move forwards.

“We will be back… don’t you worry about that.”

A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “I can confirm the incident is believed to have been caused accidentally.

“Firefighters used six breathing apparatus, two hose reels a thermal imaging camera and a positive pressure ventilation fan to extinguish the fire.”

On Monday (September 11) a huge fire broke out at Shadsworth Business Park and Industrial Estate, home to Vape Dinner Lady offices and storage units.

Huge plumes of smoke could be seen from the industrial estate, with fire crews working for days to protect flammable material in adjoining factory yards.
