Two Blackburn Rovers players recently challenged young football fans to the crossbar challenge.
Rovers Women’s players Tyler Toland and Lucy Shepherd attended Blackburn Rovers Community Trust’s final football and sports camp of the summer at Our Lady Saint John Catholic College in Blackburn.
They spoke to the children about their recent win against Birmingham City Women at Ewood Park.
After they took the older children in a game of crossbar challenge, with Shepherd leading the way by finding the bar on her first attempt.
Next was the turn of the younger group, who impressed the pair with their skills, with the afternoon ending with a penalty shootout.
Tyler and Lucy said it good to see young people having fun at the camp and also said it was promising to see young girls take an interest in the sport.
Tyler said: “We have really enjoyed it. It is great to be here and meet all the kids.
“We have been to summer camps ourselves and have some great memories from them.
“You have good fun, learn new tricks, meet new people and just enjoy it.
“It was great to see the kids playing the crossbar challenge, penalty shootout and games.
“They had a great time and so did we. It is great to see an increase in girls playing football.”
Lucy said: “It is great to see a lot of people down here, especially young girls. They have probably watched a lot of games this summer and seen all the talent on the world stage.
“It is great inspiration for them to see people like that on television and [want to] grow up to be like them in the future.
“Blackburn Rovers Women is a club that is growing, we are going in the right direction. With more talent coming through it is only going to get bigger in the future.”
