Nearly 60 businesses will be showcased in Accrington at the town’s first Makers Market this Saturday.

Alongside a selection of artisanal bakes and handmade gifts, the event will also have free crafting activities for children and a live DJ.

The pop-up stalls will be selling plants, jewellery, perfume, soaps and artwork made in the area.

Events Manager Victoria Crane said: “Come and enjoy the ambience of what we’ve created.

“The purpose of putting on a community market is to bring the community together, put on some good music and it’s a free event to go to.

“We’re going to have deckchairs out, and obviously there will be an opportunity to spoil yourself with a really good homemade brownie, or if you want to get a candle.”

Victoria reported that she needs local community projects to get in touch if they want to be included in the event.

The Makers Market operates more than 20 artisan markets across the North West every month since being set up 12 years ago.

Victoria added: “I am so incredibly impressed with Accrington, you’ve got the most amazing buildings that have been lovingly looked after.

“The town hall is incredible.”

Leader of Hyndburn Borough Council, Marlene Howarth said: “I’m delighted to see the Makers Market happening in Accrington town centre as part of our ongoing plans to develop a vibrant offer of events and activities within Hyndburn.

“I know residents will welcome this new addition in the town as an opportunity to meet, learn and support our diverse range of local business.”

The event will be taking place on Market Hall Square from 10am until 4pm.
