A popular micropub in Padiham which is undergoing a rebranding transformation will reopen at the end of this month.

Padiham Boyce’s Barrel in Old Chapel House, Burnley Road, is transforming into a lively bar that will offer a wide range of non-alcoholic drinks, as well as a mix of bespoke spirits and ales from around the world.

Paddy Maguire, 57, of Halifax, has been in the music and drinks industry for around 40 years and owns several micropubs across Lancashire, including Mojo’s of Colne in New Market Street.

Padiham Boyce’s Barrel, which Paddy purchased earlier this month, is changing its name to The Taproom of Padiham, and will reopen on September 29 with Abigail Rothery as the manager.

Speaking about what customers can expect, Paddy said: “There’s going to be a total transformation with new signage that’s going up a week before we open and a full range of new products.

"We’ve also got Abigail running the place, she’s a local girl whose well known and well liked in Padiham.

“Nina and Simon did a fantastic job at running this place so we’re just wanting to enhance it even more.

"We’re going to continue the live music, increase range of bespoke spirits and offer craft ales and lagers from Europe and America that are not for sale round here.

“We know that nowadays, drinking patterns are changing and people don’t want to go out and get drunk every night of the week so we’ll be offering a wide range of non-alcoholic drinks as well as vegan drinks.

“We’re thinking of putting non-alcoholic on draft so there’s no peer pressure to drink and you can have a pint that looks exactly the same as the bloke’s next to you.

“The modern market needs to work with people, so whether people don’t drink or are vegan or whether they just want to drink something else for a different reason, we can still offer customers a good night out.”

There is only one traditional temperance bar left in the country which is Mr Fitzpatrick’s in Rawtensall however, Paddy’s Mojo’s of Colne offers a Temperance Thursday every week after two couples raved about how great it was to not have to drink but still have a good night.

Paddy decided to make it an official event and is passionate about promoting temperance at The Taproom of Padiham.

“We sell more non-alcoholic drinks than alcoholic so it’s clear it’s something people want,” he said.

The news about the reopening has excited customers with one person writing that the refurb will “keep music live in Padiham”.

The micropub will open on September 29 and is already taking bookings for Christmas functions and parties.
