The crime rate in Blackburn with Darwen increased for the third month in a row in July.
Data from police.uk shows 1,729 crimes were committed in the borough in July, with violence and sexual offences once again topping the list – shooting back up having decreased between May and June.
The overall total of crimes increased by 1.82 per cent – a small amount, but larger than the previous 1.43 per cent increase going into June, when 1,698 crimes were committed.

Using the data, we were able to map exactly where each crime took place within the borough and determine how many instances of each crime there was.
Of the 14 crimes listed in the data, there were seven increases, five decreases, and two stayed the same.
Robbery saw the biggest increase, doubling from seven instances in June to 14 in July – an increase of 100 per cent.
The remaining crimes changed as follows:
- Violence and sexual offences – 522 (June) – 552 (July) – up 5.74 per cent
- Anti-social behaviour – 492 (June) – 464 (July) – down 5.69 per cent
- Criminal damage and arson – 114 (June) – 120 (July) – up 5.26 per cent
- Shoplifting – 102 (June) – 155 (July) – up 51.96 per cent
- Other theft – 109 (June) – 113 (July) – up 3.66 per cent
- Vehicle crime – 120 (June) – 93 (July) – down 22.5 per cent
- Public order – 91 (June) – 76 (July) – down 16.48 per cent
- Burglary – 52 (June) – 52 (July) – no change
- Other crime – 22 (June) – 27 (July) – up 22.72 per cent
- Drugs – 28 (June) – 26 (July) – down 7.14 per cent
- Possession of weapons – 19 (June) – 19 (July) – no change
- Theft from person – 9 (June) – 10 (July) – up 11.11 per cent
- Bicycle theft – 11 (June) – 8 (July) – down 27.27 per cent
Four other East Lancashire borough reported increases in their crime rates for July too.
The biggest climb was, again, in the Ribble Valley, which went up by 16.83 per cent having gone up by 8.39 per cent in June.
Pendle increased by 5.91 per cent from 808 in June to 855 in July, Hyndburn went up by 5.30 per cent from 980 to 1,032, and Rossendale’s rate went up from 585 to 613 – an increase of 4.78 per cent.
Burnley was the only borough to report a decrease, going down by 9.86 per cent from 1,288 to 1,161.
