A road closure was in place after a two-year-old boy was hit by a bus.

Sharoe Green Lane in Preston was closed yesterday afternoon (September 6), after a crash took place between a bus and a pedestrian just before 1pm.

The road was closed between Sherwood Way and St Vincents Road for a few hours.

A spokesperson for the police said: "We were called at shortly before 1pm today (Wednesday, September 6) to a report of a collision between a bus and a two-year pedestrian on Sharoe Green Lane in Preston.

"The child, a boy, was taken by ambulance to hospital but thankfully their injuries are not thought to be serious."

The traffic updates website, INRIXX, stated that traffic was ‘coping well’ despite the delays caused by the closure.

A statement posted by police said: “We are currently dealing with a road traffic collision on Sharoe Green Lane Preston and as a result have had to close the road between Sherwood Way and St Vincents Road.

“Please avoid the area and we will update once the road reopens.”

When it was announced that the road had reopened later that afternoon, councillor Connor Dwyer for Sharoe Green ward wrote on Facebook: “Some good news - the road is open at Sharoe Green Lane, though of course some traffic persists.

“It was earlier reported a pedestrian was struck by a bus. I sincerely hope for the full recovery of the pedestrian involved and thoughts are with the driver also.”
