Employees at a staircase manufacturer have raised more than £2,000 for a men’s mental health charity.
Staff from Whitworth’s Northern Joinery raised a total of £2,560 for Whitworth Men’s Shed having completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.
On Saturday, June 3, 24 employees scaled Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-Ghent in the Yorkshire Dales, with some presenting the proceeds of their efforts to representatives of the charity on Wednesday, August 23.
Whitworth Men’s Shed is an organisation that supports the mental health of men in Whitworth by providing practical projects to local men – tackling the loneliness and isolation which can take hold in older age.
The employees who took part were keen that their efforts should support men’s mental health, with event organiser Paul Scaife saying: “We are really proud of how much we managed to raise for the Men’s Shed.
“The team trained really hard and felt a huge sense of accomplishment after walking the 25 mile route.”
Peter Rielly, secretary of Whitworth Men’s Shed, said: “We are really grateful for this donation from Northern Joinery Ltd.
“It will support us in continuing to provide a welcoming space for men in Whitworth and help us continue our community projects too.”
