Police have issued a ‘stop and search’ order in Ribbleton after reports of people carrying weapons.
Officers received these reports at t 6.12pm on Monday night (September 4), on Blackpool Road.
A search authority under Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, has been put in place. It will remain in place until 2am on Wednesday (September 6).
Under the order, police can stop and search any person inside the designated area, which includes Acregate Lane, Ribbelton Ave, Cromwell Road, Watling Street Road, Gamull Lane, Brockholes Brow, Preston New Road, New Hall Lane.
There will also be an increased number of police officers in the area.
A police spokesperson said: “At 6.12pm last night, we received reports of people carrying weapons on Blackpool Road, Ribbleton.
“We take these reports very seriously and in order to investigate this incident effectively and keep you safe, a search authority under Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, has been put in place.
“It will remain in place until 2am tomorrow.
“These powers allow our officers to stop and search any person inside the designated area shown on the map, Acregate Lane, Ribbelton Ave, Cromwell Road, Watling Street Road, Gamull Lane, Brockholes Brow, Preston New Road, New Hall Lane.
“You will see an increased number of officers in the area. Please don’t be concerned. They are there for reassurance and to ensure reports are investigated thoroughly.
“Anyone with information about the incident on Blackpool Road is asked to call 101, quoting the log number 1281 of September 4, 2023.”
