The sun might have been shining this week, but even in this heat nothing beats a good roast dinner on a Sunday.
So, the Lancashire Telegraph has had a look through TripAdvisor to see what people have recommended as the go to place for a roast dinner.
Here are the top five Sunday roast dinners we have found in and around Blackburn with Darwen:
Black Bull Inn
Located in Old Langho Road, Blackburn, the pub/restaurant is rated as the eighth best restaurant in Blackburn according to TripAdvisor, and it was also awarded the Traveller’s Choice award in 2022.
It offers roast sirloin of beef or a roast leg of lamb on its Sunday lunch menus, as well as an ultimate roast board and an ultimate whole roasted chicken board – plus plenty more on offer alongside the roasts.
The restaurant also has a 4.5 out of five rating on TripAdvisor.
One diner said: "Eaten here a couple of times and its fab. Just had the Sunday roast platter and it exceeded my expectations."
Another said: "The best roast we have all had. Yorkshire pudding to die for. Lovely pub, antastic attentive staff and we would all most definitely go back. Just sublime."
Ribchester Arms
Based in Blackburn Road, Ribchester, the eatery is the 13th best restaurant in Blackburn according to TripAdvisor.
Rated a four out of five on TripAdvisor, the menu includes the choice of roast silverside beef, roast loin of gammon, loin of pork or veggie Wellington.
Each of the meats come with a homemade Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables, and roast onion gravy.
One reviewer said: "The food out of this world and all of the staff do the place credit."
Another said: "The food was proper quality gastropub grub and the Sunday roasts were very good."
The Millstone, Mellor
Located in Church Lane, The Millstone is rated as the ninth best restaurant in Blackburn according to TripAdvisor.
Rated four stars out of five on TripAdvisor, the menu includes a choice of roast rump of beef, roast pork belly, roast chicken, or a nut roast, served with a Yorkshire pudding, crispy roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables, and homemade gravy.
One visitor said: "We had an excellent Sunday lunch. The service was fast and very friendly."
Another happy customer added: "Went for Sunday lunch and it was faultless from bar service to waiter and waitress service.
"Pleasant and attentive from the staff, the food was very tasty, good quantity perfect temperature and well cooked."
The Dog Inn
Located at in Belthorn Road, Belthorn, this pub is rated five out of five on TripAdvisor and received the Travellers’ Choice award in 2022,
The Sunday lunch menu includes starters, mains, desserts, sides and snacks including beef, roast chicken, a curry dish and fish and chips.
One diner said: "Had a wonderful Sunday roast today. Starters and roasts were wonderful, lovely food service, bar staff and bar prices amazing. Can't wait to return!"
A second added: "Great warm welcome, great ale, great food and brilliant service.
"The Sunday roast was perfectly cooked. We will be back."
Ranken Arms
Located in Queen Street, Darwen, the Ranken Arms is rated 4.5 out of five on TripAdvisor, and also received the Travellers’ Choice award in 2022.
The Sunday roast menu includes beef, chicken breast, salmon in lemon butter, or beetroot and butternut squash wellington all served with creamy mash, rosemary roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables and cauliflower cheese.
One satisfied customer said: "The food was great, we were served by two lovely young girls who couldn’t do enough for us. Really friendly and easy to talk to."
Another added: "It was the best roast dinner we have had outside our own home, and we have tried many places!
"Really enjoyed it, the service was very good, the vegetables were perfectly cooked, roast and mashed potatoes excellent, along with the gravy. Will certainly be visiting again."
