A former private school which closed in 2022 could be turned into two homes if plans are approved.
Fozia Naz applied to Hyndburn Council earlier in August seeking permission to turn the former Healthland Private School into two four-bedroom homes.
The building, in Sandy Lane, Accrington, was built in 1802 as an all-girls school, and was then converted to a care home in the 1950s,and later converted back into a school in 1994.
Ms Naz wants to change the use from a school to a house, and also change the use of the separate classroom block into another home.
A planning statement submitted to the council reads: “It is proposed to convert the main building back to its originally built purpose of a dwelling, and also convert the new classroom block into a separate bungalow dwelling, and new driveway access with dropped kerb in according with LCC highways requirements.
“The works required are minimal but include the installation of a new kitchen, installation of some en-suite bathrooms, refitting school toilets rooms as bathrooms.”
There is currently space for 10 cars at the site but if approved the plans would see an additional three spaced created.
Bosses at Healthland Private School in Accrington wrote to parents last year telling them the school and nursery would be closing, leaving many heartbroken.
Staff sent out a letter in February to staff and parents saying it would be closing on February 28.
The school, in Broad Oak, Sandy Lane, blamed ‘financial strain’ as a result of the pandemic for the imminent closure and said they were supporting pupils, staff and parents where they can.
It is believed the building is not nationally listed and is not on Hyndburn Council's list of heritage assets, but Lancashire County Council have the building on their list of heritage assets and they class it as a non-designated heritage asset.
It is thought that this only applies to the main building and not the classroom building constructed in 2008.
