An area of Lancashire has been revealed as the safest place in the UK to raise children.

Living in a safe city when you have kids provides a conducive environment for their physical, emotional, and social development, allowing them to grow up with a sense of security, freedom to explore, and opportunities for positive experiences, which are crucial for their overall well-being and future success.

A recent study, conducted by a landlord insurance company looked at the number of recorded crimes between 2022 and 2023, to reveal the safest UK cities to raise kids.

The UK's top cities for a safe and nurturing environment read, from left to right, rank; city; recorded crimes per 100,000 people:

  1. Preston; 5,476.6
  2. Nottingham; 5,661.7
  3. Swansea; 6,071.2
  4. Southend-on-Sea; 6,910.4
  5. Dundee; 7,767.2
  6. Norwich; 8,441.3
  7. Cardiff; 8,543.3
  8. Chesterfield; 8,543.5
  9. Liverpool; 8,544.7

According to Alan Boswell Landlord Insurance, who conducted the research, Preston claims the top position as the safest city to live in with kids, boasting an impressively low rate of 5,476.6 recorded crimes per 100,000 people, the lowest among all cities on the ranking.

In Preston, community-oriented policing, CCTV surveillance, and youth engagement initiatives contribute to safety.

In Nottingham, a Violence Reduction Unit, anti-knife crime efforts, integrated social services, and city guardians patrols collectively ensure secure environments for residents and families. Therefore, the city follows closely in second place, with a rate of 5,661.7 crimes per 100,000 people, further exemplifying the city's commitment to safety.

Swansea secures the third position with a rate of 6,071.2 crimes per 100,000 people, continuing the trend of prioritising a safe environment for families. Swansea is considered a safe city due to its relatively low crime rates, community policing efforts, strong local government, and a combination of factors such as tourism, education, and cultural activities that contribute to a secure environment.
