An artisan market took place in an East Lancs village at the weekend - and drew record crowds.
Whalley Artisan Market, organised by Crafty Vintage, was held on Sunday and broke previous attendance records.
Organisers say footfall was just over 2,500 beating the markets previous best of 1,987.
Laura E. Johnson, co-founder of Crafty Vintage, said: “The market exceeded all our expectations. The turnout was phenomenal, and the energy was electric.
“Our vendors, many of them local artisans and startups, reported fantastic sales. It was a wonderful feeling to provide them with a platform to showcase their passion and skills.”
From handcrafted jewellery and ceramics to an array of food items, the market offered a diverse and unique range of products.
Not just a marketplace, the event also hosted local DJs like DJ Gilly who played in The Savage House.
Resident Matt Ousby said: “It was superb to see a slice of Shoreditch delivered right here in Whalley. The market has evolved into a true destination, combining the best elements of both rural charm and urban flair.”
Eateries such as Forum, Amico Mios, and Tapas 47 were extremely busy, a testament to the market’s positive effect on the wider community.
Ribble Valley Borough Cllr John Atherton said: “Today’s event has been an incredible boost to Whalley’s economy.
"We’ve seen a significant influx of visitors, which benefits not only the market but also local shops, restaurants, and other services. It’s events like these that help put Whalley on the map as a destination of choice for families and shoppers.”
A Northern Soul all-dayer with original Wigan Casino DJ, Russ Winstanley, is set to take place on the same day as the next Whalley Artisan Market, on Sunday, 24 September.
Laura said: “We saw a lot of young families today, which is a good indicator of community growth. We also had a lot of people from diverse backgrounds, making it a truly cosmopolitan gathering.
“We are proud of what we’ve accomplished today. It’s a reflection of what’s possible when a community comes together, not just for commerce but for genuine social interaction.”
The Whalley Artisan Market is a monthly event taking place in the heart of Whalley Village.
The next market in Whalley is scheduled for Sunday, September 24, with gates opening from 11am and entry is free.
