Headteachers from East Lancashire schools congratulated the efforts of pupils after results returned to pre-pandemic grading standards.

Fisher More RC High School in Colne said 69% of pupils reached the required standard in English, while 62% have excelled in Mathematics and 52% in Science.

Additionally, 54% of pupils attained the essential grade 4 or higher in both English and Mathematics. 

Ali Hussain, secured exceptional results with a grade 9 in all subjects and an 8 in Mathematics.

Harry Young's accomplishments encompass grades 9 in Mathematics, History, Biology, and RE, accompanied by grades 8 in Chemistry and Physics.

Niall Sagar's achieved four grade 9s in English, Mathematics, RE, and Physics and Maddy Duffy got grade 9s in English, Geography, History, RE, and a Distinction in BTEC Sport.

The school said: "Heartfelt congratulations are extended to all our pupils for their exceptional performance in the examinations, and we wish them continued success in the future."

At Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School (BRGS) 98.3% of students achieved grades 9-5 in English and Maths. Students performed exceptionally well in the English Baccalaureate subjects.

The average grade in the English Baccalaureate subjects is 7.0 at BRGS with the national average expected to be 4.3.

Principal Mr Johnstone said, “Our students have again done themselves and our school proud.

"These outcomes come after the disruption over recent years and it is a pleasure to see the students get the recognition they deserve after five years of hard work.

"I should also like to recognise the dedication and commitment of our teachers and support staff in preparing students for their exams. We wish our students the very best for their next steps and these successes should enable them to approach their next stage of education with real confidence and self-belief.”

Year 11 students at Darwen Aldridge Community Academy (DACA), part of Aldridge Education were thanked for their 'grit and determination' on results day.

Principal, Claire Bailey said: “It has been a wonderful day celebrating our Year 11 students’ fantastic results.

"Their grit and determination in preparing for their exams is evident in their great success today. The whole school is incredibly proud of them all and we look forward to seeing their continued success.” 

Outstanding students included: Amy Pagan, who achieved five grade 9s; Isabelle Wright, who achieved grade 7s in English language and literature; Calum Butchart, who achieved three grade 9s, four grade 8s and Brendan King, who achieved two grade 9s and three grade 8s.

Mrs Hall, headteacher of St Cecilia’s RC High School, Longridge, was overjoyed with the efforts of pupils despite several years of disruption.

She said “I am especially delighted with our results in Maths, English literature, Science, Music, Food, Art and History.

"Maths have made significant improvements since last year both in the curriculum and in their GCSE results.

“Our Year 11 pupils have so much to be proud of.  The results they have received are a genuine reflection of the hard work and effort we have seen them making throughout their time at St Cecilia’s.

"They were committed from the outset to gain the best results they possibly could after several years of disruption due to the pandemic and never gave up even when things became difficult.

“Congratulations to all our Year 11, those who have achieved outstanding results, and those who have made significant progress from their starting points.

"The excellent results that they have achieved are a testament to the hard work and resilience they have shown over the past 5 years.

“A big thank you also to all our school staff, who again have worked tirelessly in support of our pupils and today can celebrate with them and rejoice in the results that have been achieved.”

Students from Colne Primet Academy have celebrated with friends, family and staff. 

After receiving her results, former Head Girl, Amileah Afzal will be progressing to Nelson and Colne College to study A Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Psychology. She plans to pursue a career in Dentistry in the future. Former Head Boy, Jason Zhou, will also now be progressing to study A Levels in Chemistry, Biology, Government and Politics and Mathematics at Burnley College. He then plans to pursue a career in Medicine. 

Emily Smith, who is an aspiring journalist or publisher, will be studying A Levels in English Literature, History and Politics at Nelson and Colne College where she will be joined by Issra Ashfaq, a future engineer, who will be studying A Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. 

Hussnain Mahmood will be combining work with his Engineering apprenticeship studies at Nelson and Colne College while Zainab Khan will be travelling to Accrington and Rossendale College to complete a Level 3 Health and Social Care BTEC Diploma. 

Colne Primet Academy Principal, Mrs Pilkington, said: “After all of the disruption these students have endured over the past few years, it was fantastic to see that their resilience and motivation has allowed them to progress to their chosen next steps. 

“We’ve had a great morning celebrating with our Class of 2023 and their families and look forward to following their future journeys through college and into university and employment.

"We hope that they will always be Proud to be Primet and will keep in touch with us to let us know what they achieve in the future. Congratulations Class of 2023!”
