A man from Darwen has ‘gone down in history’ for getting a perfect score on a radio quiz show, hosted by Vernon Kay.
Andrew Robinson is one of only four people to have achieved a perfect score on BBC Radio 2 quiz segment Ten To The Top.
The quiz sees two listeners answer 10 questions about pop music as they battle for pop supremacy, with each daily winner receiving a smart speaker.
Each contestant has a ‘joker’ to play and for that question they will get double points if it is answered correctly.
Those who get a perfect score also win a t-shirt.
On the quiz, which aired on Tuesday morning (August 15), Bolton's Vernon asked Andrew various questions about Calvin Harris, The Pet Shop Boys and more.
Andrew, 48, managed to score a perfect 65 points, winning a smart speaker, t-shirt and framed picture of his score sheet.
On the show, Vernon said: “We have another member of the elusive 65 club. Andrew Robinson is absolutely awesome. This means that not only do you get a smart speaker, you also get a Ten To The Top t-shirt.
“I will frame your score sheet and we will send it in the post.
“You have now raised the membership tally of the elusive 65 club from three to four, so congratulations.
“We will celebrate that you have gone down in history and hopefully we will see you soon.”
Andrew, who collects vinyl records, said: “I was lucky, I thought the questions fell right for me – brilliant!”
Speaking afterwards, Andrew said he has always had an interest in music.
He said: “There are only four people who have ever done this before so I am in quite unique company.
“I have always been interested in pop music.
“Vernon said it was a great achievement. I fired every answer over without hesitation and no thinking."
It is not the first time Andrew has performed well on a radio music quiz, and was named one of the top PopMaster players in the country in 2011. This quiz segment formed part of Ken Bruce's Radio 2 show in the same slot before he left for Greatest Hits Radio.
He said: “I know a little bit about pop music.
“It’s not about the prizes, it is more about the pride and the achievement.
“I think Vernon is great – my wife adores him.”
On the radio show Andrew also gave a shoutout to his children’s Bolton school, Canon Slade.
Vernon asked: “Has Canon Slade still got that green uniform? It’s in a good location [that school] in a decent part of Bolton
Andrew: “It still has that iconic green uniform, yes it does.
“The kids [who are waiting to get their a-level and GCSE results this month] have worked hard and have done their best.”
Vernon took over the mid-morning weekday BBC Radio 2 slot in May.
He replaced veteran Ken, who hosted the programme for 31 years.
Listen to Ten To The Top live on BBC Radio 2 at 10.30am each weekday, or catch-up later with the Ten To The Top podcast.
