A man who was found with cannabis and carrying a large ‘Gurkha style’ knife was arrested after assaulting a police officer.

At around 3pm yesterday (August 8) officers from Hyndburn Neighbourhood Policing Team were on patrol on Queen Street near to the library when they ‘had cause’ to speak to two men.

One of the men tried to flee and became violent and an officer was assaulted.

He was arrested and found to be in possession of a knife and a ‘significant amount of cannabis’.

He remains in custody as the investigation is underway.
