A local Bolton charity held a food festival fundraising event to help build homes for those affected by the recent earthquakes in Turkey.

The group 'Unity for Charity' is formed of seven women, with a mission to work together for the betterment of the community and for those in need.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Shereen Patel, CEO of Unity for Charity, said: "When we started planning for this event, it was clear to us that we would need the support of our community.

"We have had an overwhelming amount of support from local businesses and sponsors who helped put this event together so we could raise the amount we did.

"Going forward we will plan other fundraisers either for the community, for international causes or for wherever we can identify that needs help."

Local businesses such as Adz Cash and Carry, Manchester Superstore, Bolton Eye Clinic, MRH Solicitors, and Roccia Tileswere were approached for primary sponsorships.

The event was held at the 3D Centre on Bella Street, who were let the charity host the event there for free.

Over 60 vendors supported the fundraising event, including Sarah de Chef, Masala Bites, and Shabnam Stages, with over 4000 people showing up on the day despite the rain.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Shereen continued: "At 11am the weather was so horrendous our marquee was flying around everywhere, and I had to cry because I was so upset from all the work we had put in over the last 10 weeks and what if no one comes?

"But the turn out was just absolutely amazing and beyond my expectations."

There was also had a kids fundraiser competition that ran alongside the day, where the first prize for the winner was a Play Station 5, second prize was an Airplane Flying Experience, and the third was a huge American sweets hamper.
