People are being invited to submit nominees for an award in memory of a volunteer who was passionate about helping the most marginalised people within society.
Lindsay Dunn gave his time in support of the community, including volunteering at Roman Road Library in Blackburn and helping people with addiction problems as part of the Fast4wd project.
From 2016, he was chairman of the service users forum in Blackburn, called VOICE, until his death.
The Lindsay Dunn Award is one of 12 categories at this year’s Community Volunteer Awards, being held at King George's Hall on Thursday, November 2.
It is given to any individual volunteer or team of volunteers whose enthusiasm and dedication has made an outstanding voluntary contribution to improving the lives of people experiencing complex, severe and multiple disadvantage.
This could be people suffering from poverty, homelessness, poor mental health, domestic abuse, with a background of criminal offending or recovering from alcohol or substance misuse.
The annual awards, now in their fifth year, celebrate the individuals and groups who do whatever they can to make life better for others in Blackburn with Darwen.
The Lancashire Telegraph is showing support for this year’s Community Volunteer Awards by being the media partner sponsor.
Richard Duggan, editor of the Lancashire Telegraph said: “We are thrilled to partner and sponsor these awards – they're a brilliant opportunity to celebrate our amazing borough and the people that make it such a special place to call home.”
Previous winners of the Lindsay Dunn Award include Ismail Esat, Sliding Doors, Neil Mistry of Community Spirit and Voice Saturday Breakfast Club.
Other awards include The Good Neighbour Award, Volunteer of the Year, an Environment Award, a Health & Wellbeing Award, and the Community Involvement Award which is open to the local business community.
You can nominate people of any age who volunteer in any way in Blackburn with Darwen. It could be someone who gives their spare time for free to help out with sports clubs, someone who dedicates their time to a local charity, or someone who pitches in to keep our neighbourhoods clean and tidy.
Go to communitycvs.org.uk/volunteer/volunteer-awards to submit your nominations.
