There is nothing quite as captivating in nature as a waterfall.

Lancashire is known for its rolling countryside, yet not so much for the waterfalls nestled in and around the area.

And there are a number of stunning secret cascades, all different but equally as enchanting - and worth exploring this summer.

Keen photographer Pete Kennington has captured the secret natural wonders in a series of glorious pictures, using the backdrop of last weekend's torrential rain to catch the waterfalls at their most dramatic.

Three Nooked Shaw is hidden away in the heart of a pine wood, where the water flows from Winter Hill Moor.

Unfortunately there is no open access to the waterfall. There is open access on the moor on three sides of the woodland but not actually in the wood, say United Utilities.

Another secret waterfall is Tigers Clough Falls in Rivington, loved by locals, and remains pretty much a hidden gem.

He said: "The Japenese Garden falls in the Rivington estate are worth a look after heavy rainfall."

Yet it is only a short walk from the Rivington Reservoir car park and through a wooded ravine.

Not far from home are the falls in Roddlesworth Woods, that are "worth the walk".

With a woodland walk and the sounds of flowing water with a pub at the start and end, it is hard to disagree.

Another secret waterfall can be found just outside Edgworth, which feeds the Wayoh Reservoir but Pete says is difficult to access.

He also captured Black Dean Brook near White Coppice.

Pete said: "It is a little bit out of town but we have so many great falls nearby."
