A 61-year-old Blackburn man was arrested on suspicion of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.

It is alleged the man had been communicating with a 14-year-old and was apprehended by members of the Elite Facebook Group, a group of volunteers.

In a video shared online, a man was stopped by several people on Saturday on what is believed to be Dukes Brow in the Corporation Park area of the town.

The man was then asked his name and whether he had been talking to a teenager.

While waiting, the group state they have called the police.

The man was spoken to up to an hour, which was shared on a live Facebook feed, and asked a series of questions over his behaviour.

A police officer later can be seen and handcuffing the man and walking him to the back of a police van.

A police spokesperson said: “A 61-year-old man from Blackburn was arrested on Saturday (July 22) on suspicion of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.

“He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.”
