A kind-hearted 16-year-old boy from Darwen is hosting a charity football match in August to raise money for a hospice.
Ellis Wignall has been fundraising for Derian House Children's Hospice since attending Darwen Vale High School, and is hoping this year’s match will be the most successful yet.
Due to study health and social care at Blackburn College in September, Ellis waited until after he finished his GCSEs to organise this year’s event.
Since attending Darwen Vale High School, which has also raised money for Derian House in the past, Ellis has been training and planning for these games.
Ellis said: “We have ambitions for this year’s match to be a lot better in every aspect.
"Events like this are a good way for people to have a fun time raising money for charity, whilst also playing the sport which they love.
"I love charity work; it's important because it keeps charities to continue running and helps bring the community together."
Derian House is an end-of-life children's hospice in Chorley, providing care 24/7 to those who need it.
The team raised £2,147 last year in their first match, and are hoping to raise at least £2,500 in this year’s match.
The match will kick off at Mill Hill Football Club on Sunday, August 6, where two teams, made of Ellis’s friends and some family members, will compete against each other for a great cause.
Mick Croskery, fundraising manager at Derian House Children’s Hospice, said: “The team here at Derian House Children’s Hospice is amazed by the huge efforts Ellis has put into his football fundraiser for our children and families.
“Without this type of support, we simply would not be able to offer our services of respite and end-of-life care to children and families across the North West of England.”
