A quirky coffee shop has opened in Padiham after the owners decided to give their business a shakeup.
Crawshawbooth father and son, Sean and Bailey Routh, have opened The Workshop at an industrial unit.
They used to work at the unit as metal fabricators but decided to transform their workshop and open a coffee shop after a fall in trade.
Bailey, 23, said: “We have been in this unit for around six years ago working as metal fabricators, specialising in making dog cages, but there just isn’t enough money in it.
“We couldn’t compete with online prices, despite the products being completely bespoke.
“We had a think about what to do in such a big space and decided to open a specialty coffee house.
“We are self-taught and I have completed my barista training.”
Inside the quirky shop, which is located at Unit 21 in the Riverside Mill, on Fleetwood Road, most items have been upcycled and there is even a classic Fiat x19 car in the unit.
He said: “We have turned our workshop into a coffee house, hence its name.
“We wanted to go for a Manchester Northern Quarter vibe, with an industrial aesthetic. The unit is situated in an old mill and already looks authentically industrial.
“Everything is quite quirky and most of the things in the shop has been upcycled. Our work bench is now a 12 seater table.
“An old steel rack has been repurposed into two booths.
“Old drawers have been upcycled into a bookshelf and decorative art work is also on show.”
Bailey said the business has received a lot of support from the public since opening around a month ago.
He said: “We serve specialty coffee and deal directly with the farmer, to ensure our produce is ethically resourced.
“The reaction from the public has been amazing. We’ve had loads of positive feedback and reviews.
“Customers have been returning and bringing new people with them.”
As well as specialty coffee, the coffee shop sells food such as full English breakfasts and jacket potatoes.
Bailey said: “It’s a family-run business that is quite small. It’s something different and unique. We want it to be a community hub.
“We serve nice wholesome food, using ingredients straight from the butchers and farm.”
