The police have issued a message to the public, after hours of heavy rain has lead to flooding across the county.
Flood warnings have also been issued as Lancashire rivers break their banks.
The police has urged the public not to drive through flood water, urging everyone to plan their journeys.
In a statement they said: “It’s rained all day and has been the weather for ducks rather than what we would have wanted on a Sunday in the summer.
“The persistent rain has led to flooding in some parts of the county and we are asking you to be sensible around flood water.
“Please don’t attempt to drive through a flood on the road as it can damage your vehicle and lead to you becoming stuck.
“If you are out and about this evening and into the early hours, please plan your route and look out for flood water.
“Hopefully it will be less moist tomorrow and we get some sunshine.”
The government say flooding is expected on the River Darwen, around Higher Walton.
The public has been urged to ‘act now’ meaning flooding is imminent.
Under this advice, people in the alert area have been advised to turn off gas, water and electricity, move things upstairs or to safety and to move family, pets and vehicles to safety.
In a statement, that was updated at around 5pm on Sunday (July 23), a spokesperson said: “River levels are high and forecast to rise further on the River Darwen due to heavy rainfall.
“Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the River Darwen. Flooding is expected at locations on Higher Walton Road backing onto the River Darwen, close to Cann Bridge in Darwen Street and Higher Walton Mills.
“We are monitoring rainfall and river levels and are checking rivers for blockages in the area.
“We will continue to monitor levels closely. Monitor local water levels and weather conditions. Consider putting your flood plan into action.
“You should avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.”
A flood alert has also been issued for the River Wyre.
Areas most at risk include River Wyre, River Cocker, Pilling Water and other watercourses from Catterall to Fleetwood, including St Michaels and Great Eccleston and Preesall.
The amber warning was issued at 7.47pm on Sunday and the public has been urged to ‘be prepared’.
