Pupils at one East Lancashire primary school are celebrating after winning a coveted Music Mark from Lancashire Music Service.
The Music Mark recognises schools in the county who place a high value on music and who work with partners to develop their provision.
Alongside the illustrious Music Mark, St Mary’s RC Primary School in Osbaldeston, near Mellor, also received instruments for its efforts in championing music to its pupils.
It will mean pupils can learn a variety of instruments at the school, from the classics of woodwind and brass, to strings and percussion.
Headteacher at St Mary's, Maria Coulthard, said: “We know how important the arts are and to develop an early appreciation and love of them, which we encourage at St Mary’s.
“We have some talented musicians at our school and these new instruments will hopefully enable more pupils to play an instrument.”
St Mary’s already holds guitar lessons and the school's choir took part in the ‘Let’s Go Sing’ event at King George’s Hall in Blackburn earlier this year, where 200 schools performed in the brilliant event.
Mrs Coulthard added: “We were regional heat winners at Colne Municipal Hall and then our choir, under Heather Pinn, performed at King George’s Hall which they loved.
"They sang a Lion King medley as well as Sing Together and Mamma Mia."
