Spot On Lancashire has announced a new project specifically working with all five libraries within Blackburn with Darwen Library and Information Service.
Rekindle is part of a national arts development programme funded by Arts Council England which will see five library services partnered with five touring arts schemes across the country.
For audiences, this means an increase in opportunities to get involved in regular activities run by the libraries and a wealth of live performances and events hosted and promoted by librarians and Spot On staff over the next three years.
The first event will be a free outdoor storytelling show for children and families at Mill Hill and Roman Road Libraries during the summer holidays, with a whole programme of activities launched from September.
Sue Robinson, director of Spot On Lancashire, said: “The project aims to transform libraries into hubs of creative exploration and cultural adventure, long gone are the days when libraries were only for books.
"We’re keen to promote the brilliant work of all five venues and help attract audiences from all over Lancashire to these amazing spaces.”
Adele Karwat, Library Service manager, said: “We are delighted to be working with Spot On Lancashire to deliver the Rekindle project through our libraries.
"The eclectic programme of creative activities and performances promises to provide plenty of ‘hands on’ opportunities and ‘in person’ experiences for our visitors, delivered in the heart of our communities with something for everyone to enjoy.”
Artistic programmer, Lyndsey Wilson, added: “The live programme we’re bringing in Autumn includes theatre, music, dance and children’s shows, not to mention regular weekly activities and some additional ways to get involved via our seasonal brochure and website.
"We’re so excited to be opening the doors of the libraries out of hours and rethinking how regular users see these spaces.”
This programme is supported by public funding from Arts Council England. Further details will be available on the Spot On Lancashire website in the coming months.
