A set of cupboards have been brazenly dumped on the side of a dual carriageway in Blackburn.

The fly-tipping appears to have happened overnight (Tuesday, July 16) in Barbara Castle Way, close to the junction with Victoria Street.

The furniture was discarded on the footpath next to a pedestrian crossing.

Cllr Altaf 'Tiger' Patel said he was one of many people who spotted the rubbish early this morning.

He said: “This is shocking. I do not understand why they would dump here?

“What is going on in Blackburn? People are dumping and fly-tipping everywhere. I request everyone to go to the recycling centre.”

Lancashire Telegraph:

Cllr Patel urged the authorities to check the CCTV camera close by on the road.

He said there may have to be a re-think on some recycling centre policies.

“I make no excuse for this type of crime but we do also need to think about the recycling centre and how some vehicles with larger loads need a permit," he said.

“People with small vans are not allowed in so how would you expect to get things like furniture into the centre?

“People are just going to dump anywhere then.”

Lancashire Telegraph:

According to Blackburn with Darwen Council's website, a permit is to required to ‘prevent commercial waste from illegally entering household waste recycle centres.

Permits are widely used to allow genuine household waste into the sites from commercial type vehicles e.g. vans.’

There is no charge for the permit and people simply need to visit the Blackburn with Darwen Councilwebsite.

The George Street West household waste recycling centre is open until 7pm through the summer months.

Blackburn with Darwen Council had removed the furniture this morning.
