A teenager who was showing off his new “wheels” to mates has lost his licence before even passing his test after being caught drink driving.
Jay Mayfield was breathalysed after crashing during the short drive in his new BMW 1 Series on April 23.
Mayfield, 18, of The Shires, Blackburn, admitted to driving with excess alcohol, and having no licence or insurance.
He was fined £120 with £85 costs and banned from driving for 12 months.
Jackie Partington, prosecuting, said police were called to The Shires following a report of a BMW colliding with a van.
There were people on the street and one of them named Mayfield as the driver and said he had gone into a nearby house.
He was arrested and a subsequent breathalyser test gave a reading of 48 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath against the legal limit of 35mcg.
Damien Pickup, offering mitigation, said his client had been due to take his driving test two weeks after the incident and his dad had bought the car for him in anticipation of him passing his test.
“On the night he had been drinking in the garage with his mates and they got into the car without any intention of driving,” said Mr Pickup.
“One of them released the handbrake and the car rolled back into the parked van.
"He then started the engine and drove forwards the 10 metres he had rolled back.”
