Talented wrestler Abdullah Nasar won eight bouts on his way to gold and retaining a British title at a recent competition.
From Accrington, Abdullah, a pupil Saint Anne Saint Joseph Primary School, weighed in at 32kg but was put in a 36kg group for the competition.
But that didn’t hold him back as he went on to win the British National Wrestling Championships for the second time.
Nasar Mohammed, father of the wrestling prodigy, said: “He loves freestyle wrestling and has also been nominated for the best British Junior Wrestler honour.
“He trains at Sharples Wrestling Club in Bolton; he heads there every Tuesday and Thursday travelling from Accrington.
“He is dedicated to the sport and his coaches Eddy Kavanagh and Mostafa Fatahiniya are so impressed with his commitment and how he's picked wrestling up in such a short time.
“His grit and work rate is great and he is an inspiration to other kids at the club.
“His dream is to represent Great Britain at the Olympics. He’s been wrestling just over 16 months and in that time he won Irish National Wrestling Championships, the Scottish National championship and now the British National Championships twice.”
