A teenager from Carnforth has been arrested after a video, which appears to show a cat being thrown off a cliff, went viral on social media.
The video, a screen recording of a video message from the Snapchat app, was shared on social media on Tuesday, July 11.
In the clip, a boy is shown holding a black and white cat in one arm, before throwing it off the cliff and into the water.
The person recording films the cat falling through the air and hitting the water before the video ends.
It is believed to have taken place in the Morecambe or Carnforth area of the county.
The video has since been shared across social media, sparking outrage.
Earlier today, officers said they did not believe a crime has been committed and think the cat was already dead at the time of the incident.
In an update issued this afternoon, police said they have conducted further enquiries and are now set to speak to a man in connection with animal cruelty offences.
Now, an 18-year-old man from Carnforth has been arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty and is currently in custody.
A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: “Further to our earlier post about a video of a cat appearing to be thrown from a cliff into water, we can confirm a man has been arrested.
