A 1920s inspired cocktail and wine bar is preparing to open in Bacup next month and it looks incredible.

Prohibition Bar and Eatery is set to open on St James Square next Saturday (July 8) and owner, Michael Stewart, hopes it will bring something new to the town.

He said: “I am planning to do a soft opening for family and friends and will hopefully be open next Saturday.

“This project has been a good four or five months in the making and we can’t wait to open.

"The public have been so welcoming and they have been calling in to ask what we are doing."

The former Old Boot Café and Wine Bar has been completely transformed into a 1920s inspired bar, reminiscent of the prohibition era when alcohol was banned in the United States of America.

Vintage artwork, including historical pieces from the prohibition records, is on the wall and festoon lights cover the ceiling. The showstopper of the site is the mobster painting which covers an entire wall.

Michael said: “The aesthetic is glitz, glamour and mobster.

“At the bar there is always something interesting to look at. It looks like something you would find in Manchester’s Northern Quarter but it is right here in Rossendale instead.

“Customers love the art work and the vibe we have created. Many have said they can’t wait to come in.”

The bar will sell cocktails, wine and craft beer.

Food will also be served at Prohibition. An a la carte menu and charcuterie boards will be made available to customers.

Michael thinks the bar will be a great new addition to Bacup.

He said: “I’ve had bars and restaurants before and I was looking at new ventures.

“I was driving through Bacup and I saw this building on the corner and thought it was such a lovely little place.

“I thought it was about time somebody opened something nice in the area.

“I feel like Bacup is going to be the new up-and-coming town in the next decade. I think more people will start investing in the town in the coming years.”

Many prospective customers cannot wait to visit, expressing their excitement on social media.

One person said: “It looks brilliant.”

Another said: “The art looks fantastic.”

A third person said: "Fantastic news, we really need a nice wine bar in Bacup. Can't wait until you open."

It is not the only new business that has opened in Bacup recently.

The Station Brew opened on Market Street on Sunday, June 25, and is owned by firefighters David Loney and Aaron Goult.

It is hoped that the café, restaurant and bar, will have something for everyone in the community to enjoy.
