Homes in Trawden are without power after an unplanned power cut hit the area.
Five customers in BB8 8PU, BB8 8PS and BB8 8PX have been without power since 11am. Power is not set to be restored until around 11pm.
The power cut is due to an “unexpected incident” with the underground cable.
A spokesperson for Electricity North West said: “This power cut has been caused by an unexpected incident with the underground cable that provides electricity to your home or business.
“We didn't know before your electricity went off that this was going to happen but now we know, rest assured we will get your power back on safely and as quickly as possible.
“Please note that all our timescales are estimated based on previous experience and may change if new information becomes available while our engineers are fixing the issue.
“With underground power cuts, we may need to dig to repair the cable and this can sometime extend the length of time you are without power.”
A power cut has been scheduled in Blackburn with Darwen on July 2, where one customer is set to be without supply.
Power cuts can be caused by many different factors such as:
- theft of our equipment- sometimes our substations are broken in to and our equipment is taken
- fire which damages the equipment on our network or in our substations
- birds flying in to our overhead cables
- deterioration or water seeping in to an aging cable
- damages to cables from others for example:
- customers digging in their own garden
- contractors working in the public highway
The length of time to restore your electricity can vary depending on the reason for the power cut. We will work as quickly as we can to restore your electricity as we know how inconvenient this can be to your daily life.
If your electricity keeps going on and off it could be that your power cut is a transient or intermittent fault. Power cuts caused by this type of fault are very difficult to locate underground as they are very small, you can watch our video below if you want to know more about transient faults.
