A man lapsed back into drugs and stealing to pay for them when a three-year relationship ended, a court has heard.

Blackburn Magistrates' Court was told that while Aaron Bridge was involved with his partner he had not offended.

Bridge, 35, of Oak Street, Colne, pleaded guilty to two charges of stealing cosmetics from TK Maxx in Colne.

He was jailed for three weeks.

District Judge Alexandra Preston said she imposed a prison sentence with regret because she could see he had spent three years without committing any offences.

"Over the last few moths you have been offending and you have not taken up the help that has been offered to you," said District Judge Preston.

"If you don't take the chances you are given this is just going to be a revolving door."

Paul Sumner, prosecuting, told the court how Bridge had gone into the TK Maxx store i North Valley Road and stole cosmetics worth £96.

Four days later he returned and this time stole cosmetics worth £91.

"On the second occasion security staff stopped him as he walked out of the store and the items were recovered," said Mr Sumner.

Mark Williams, in mitigation, said following the breakdown of the relationship Bridge had lost his place to live and returned to old acquaintances.

"Before he knew it he was addicted again," said Mr Williams.

"He has been back to prison and was released with no income, nowhere to live and still with a drug habit. The problem is, how do you break the cycle."
