Parents of children at a nursery in East Lancashire have rated it as one of the top 20 nurseries in the North West.

Great and Small Kindergarten in Clayton-le-Moors was rated in the top 20 out of 1,725 early years settings in the region.

The top 20 have all received an award from the day nurseries reviews site, daynurseries.co.uk, with the award based on reviews from the childrens’ families and carers.

They were rated on overall standard, facilities and outside space, learning, resources and equipment, activities, care, staff, food and nutrition, management, cleanliness, safeguarding, and value for money.

Great and Small opened in 2018 and was rated outstanding by Ofsted in its first inspection in September 2022, and also made the Top 20 list last year.

Victoria Cocken, the nursery's director, said: "We at Great and Small Kindergarten are over the moon to have won the award of being one of the Top 20 nurseries in the North West, for the second year running.

"This comes just a few months after being rated outstanding by Ofsted so combined, this really does mean a lot to us all.

“We are only a small setting however we really do strive to provide a high quality early years education to all of our children, be supportive to our families and a hub of our local community by providing a free weekly playgroup for all families in the area to attend.

“To receive an award to affirm our vision and endeavours is wonderful, especially one that is awarded from parental reviews for which we are truly grateful for. We'll now to aiming to win again next year for a hat-trick!"

Amanda Hopkins, reviews manager of daynurseries.co.uk, said: “Our award is recognition from parents and carers that this nursery is offering their children a high standard of care and a stimulating environment, which will hopefully help create strong self-esteem and a lifelong love of learning.

“We hope these awards give parents that much needed guidance in choosing the right nursery for their child.”
