A new vintage festival is coming to East Lancashire this weekend.
Organised by dance teachers, Anthony Padgett from Morecambe and Stephanie Sturges from Preston, and featuring bands from the local area, the vintage festival will be held at BAE’s Canberra Club this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Anthony and Stephanie have taught Jive and Lindy Hop in Preston, Manchester and Blackburn for the last 13 years (including for the BBC and for Wayne Hemingway) and decided to start their own festival.
Anthony, who has been an extra in Downton Abbey the Movie, said: “There will be classic vehicles, bands, dance teaching, 1940s re-enactors, performances, stalls and other attractions. You can stay the whole weekend and there is camping available.
“Dancing is a great form of exercise and is what festivals are all about. So dress up and have a great day out. Whether you are into rock n roll, 1920s speakeasies or 1940s dances or just like to have a bit of fun this is the event for you.”
Anthony also has a YouTube channel where he can be seen dancing the Charleston and other styles, with some of his videos amassing more than 500,000 views.
He added: “The main festival day is Saturday 17 from 11am until 11pm and the festival ends Sunday at 1pm with a recreation of the 1960s with a Mods and Rockers scooter and motorcycle ride-out."
Entry to indoor stalls and food facilities is free, and the dance events are priced at £10 each and £15 for Saturday night.
The schedule is as follows:
Friday: Slim Steph’s Speakeasy, 7.30pm till late. The theme for this event is 1920s Speakeasy with a dance lesson in the Charleston.
Saturday afternoon: Hollywood Canteen, 2pm until 5pm. This event theme is 1940s dance and a dance lesson will be held focussing on the social foxtrot.
Saturday night: Hep Cat Hop, 7.30pm until late. The theme is 1950s rock ‘n’ roll, with a band performing call The Jetsons and a dance lesson in the jive.
The festival will be held at the Canberra Club, Samlesbury Aerodrome, Balderstone, from 7.30pm on Friday.
