Entries to the county’s art awards is closing soon – but there is still time to enter if you’re eager to be involved.
A last call has been issued for entries for the Lancashire Artist of the Year 2023, the new competition from Lancashire County Council – with the competition set to close on Monday, June 19.
The council wants to see paintings, sketches, collages, lino prints or even embroideries depicting the entries’ favourite view of Lancashire in spring, summer, autumn, or winter.
To enter the competition, entries are asked to upload a photo of their original artwork before the June 19 deadline, and all submitted artworks must be in landscape format.
Once the deadline passes, the panel of judges will pick their favourites from each season to create a shortlist.
The shortlisted artworks will then be open to an online public vote which will open at 9am on Monday, July 10, and close at 11.59pm on Thursday, August 10.
The finalists and the winner's artworks will be collated and printed in the council’s first Lancashire Artist of the Year 2024 calendar, which will be sold across the county in libraries, museums, and in archives.
Proceeds from the sale of the calendars will go towards activities to support Lancashire Care Leavers.
County Councillor Peter Buckley, cabinet member for cultural services at Lancashire County Council, said: "It was important for us to make this competition inclusive, which is why we have made it open to everyone across Lancashire, regardless of ability.
"We've had some brilliant entries so far and there's still time to enter before we move into the judging phase of the competition.
"Once the judges have picked their favourites artworks from each season, we'll be putting those to a public vote so you can have the final say.
"The artwork with the most votes will win the title of Lancashire Artist of the Year 2023 and feature on the front cover of our first Lancashire Artist of the Year 2024 calendar.
