A man who glassed a woman in a town centre pub causing eight of her teeth to fall out and leaving her needing bone restructure surgery has been jailed for more than seven years.

Adam Perry, 24, was in the Bees Knees in Blackburn on January 9, 2022, Preston Crown Court heard, when the attack happened.

While on the dance floor, an unknown man who was enjoying himself bumped into him, causing Perry to push him away.

Prosecuting, Peter Wilson said: “He had a glass in his right hand and the unknown male then bumped into him again, at which point the defendant raised his glass and swung his arm back and threw the glass at the male.

“It missed and instead hit Kerry Corkin, who was known to Perry, and was in the bar with her friends.

“Perry then punched the male twice.

“Kerry Corkin ran out of the bar crying, with blood running down her face. She then returned to tell Perry what he had done.

“She went to hospital but lost eight teeth as a result.”

CCTV played in court showed the moment Perry swung the glass and launched it at the man, missing and hitting Miss Corkin in the face.

Judge Guy Mathieson said when he viewed the CCTV he was “surprised at just how violent the swing of the arm was”.

Mr Wilson said Perry was arrested at 2pm and interviewed the following day, where he answered no comment to all questions, said he didn’t know the man in the bar and told police he didn’t have anger issues.

A statement from Miss Corkin a few months later detailed how she had been affected by the incident.

Reading it on her behalf, Mr Wilson said: “I felt extremely stressed about the incident and don’t know what was happening with my face and my teeth.

“I became anxious of people looking at my teeth and my mouth.

“I had three teeth removed initially and then another five removed as my braces came off and the teeth became infected.

“I lost eight teeth in total and it will cost around £2,000 a tooth for implants.

“They were my front teeth and I had had braces since the age of 18, which were due to come off, and I was looking forward to having my braces off and natural teeth.

“I am only 21-years-old and take pride in my appearance.

“This has had a massive effect on how I see myself and I don’t like looking in the mirror.”

A further statement from Miss Corkin taken on June 6 said she had been on a liquid diet for weeks, couldn’t bite down on things and could no longer, 18 months later, eat apples or some types of meat.

It read: “If you looked at me now you wouldn’t think there was anything different as I’ve had dentures from the NHS but my life is ruined.

“I still struggle to show my teeth and my mouth when I smile, and cover it up or turn away.

“I will need to have a jaw graft where bone is taken from my hip to stop my teeth from falling out.

“Although he’s now pleaded guilty, it’s too little too late as he’s ruined my life – one moment affected me in so many ways.”

Mitigating, Philip Holden said his client was truly sorry for what he had done and never intended to cause harm to Miss Corkin.

Perry was also being sentenced for a separate offence which he committed while on bail for the bar attack, in which he involved himself in an altercation, leaving a man fighting for his life.

Mr Wilson told the court that on May 2, a fight had broken out between a man called Adam Hussain and another man.

Perry, who has five convictions for seven offences, became involved and smashed a bottle over Mr Hussain’s head causing a 7cm laceration near his ear in which he lost two pints of blood and nearly died.

Perry, of Honey Hole, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm on the first day of trial in June.

In respect of Mr Hussain, Perry pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent at a plea and trial preparation hearing in May.

Another man is due to be sentenced for his part in that attack on Friday (June 9).

Judge Mathieson said: “You have previous convictions and two more to be sentenced for which strikes me that you are an angry young man, and I don’t know why.

“But you are someone who, particularly when in drink, seems to seek out confrontation and again, I don’t know why.

“And you are quite prepared to use weapons to back up your desire for a fight.

“What you did to Kerry Corkin is unforgiveable and when I first saw the CCTV it took me by surprise just how violent that swing of the arm was. That was a shocking act of violence.

“What led to it was something and nothing. You could’ve walked away.

“I appreciate you didn’t mean to hit her but it’s little consolation to her as you clearly meant to injure someone.

“You left her with a permanent disfigurement.

“While on bail for that offence there’s the second matter, again I don’t really know what led up to that.

“There’s a fight between two people and you didn’t have to get involved but you did.

“You may not have meant serious harm but the fact he almost died as a result of what you did weighs heavily on the stupidity of your actions.

“It’s sad to see a 24-year-old before me for such violent offences.”

Perry was jailed for seven years and nine months.
