This great photo shows the creation of what is now a familiar junction for drivers in Blackburn.
Taken in the 1920s, the newly-created dual carriageway of Brownhill Drive goes off to the right up the hill and you can see a tram shelter at the bottom of Brownhill Drive which also housed a telephone kiosk.
The dual carriageway was constructed as a bypass route and coincided with a new housing estate being built by Blackburn Corporation.
Brownhill Road is straight ahead of you with Whalley New Road to the left of it. On the extreme right you can see St Gabriel’s Church which was under construction - it would open in 1933.
