A paranoid schizophrenic breached a suspended sentence order by headbutting a police officer, climbing on the roof of a building, spitting at a paramedic, and assaulting two custody officers.
Kamil Stolarski was handed the suspended sentence in April 2021, for offences of dangerous driving and handling stolen goods.
However, Preston Crown Court heard how a year later, in April 2022, the 24-year-old was seen by police being ejected from a nightclub in Burnley.
Prosecuting, David Traynor said: “An officer approached the defendant who was being aggressive and then got in the officer’s face and appeared to tense up.
“Fearful of being attacked by the defendant, the officer took him to the ground and was assisted by other officers.
“The defendant was arrested but then another officer became the focus of his attention and he headbutted the officer to the right cheek.”
Mr Traynor said Stolarski was released on bail but then on November 25, phoned his mother demanding she give him £50.
His stepfather was reluctant as he knew Stolarksi would spend the money on drugs, and after refusing, the defendant attended his mother’s house and began making threats through the window before throwing a plant pot at his mother’s car
Mr Traynor went on: “The police attended but he tried to get away by climbing on a roof, and then fell through a ventilation duct.
“Police had to break into the building to get him out and when he was being taken to the ambulance he spat in the face of a paramedic.”
The court heard that while still in custody, on November 27, Stolarski was observed trying to cause damage to his cell.
When custody suite officers couldn’t persuade him to stop they opened the cell door and a crouching Stolarski then launched himself at them and began attacking them, swinging punches in their direction.
Mitigating, Bob Elias said his client had a long history of failing to comply with societal rules and had issues with authority, but knew he had to start behaving.
He said: “He is a man who needs to find his feet and grow up.”
Recorder Daniel Prowse said in sentencing: “You have a well established diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia, and when you take illicit substances this worsens your behaviour.
“You were sectioned last year after suffering an acute psychotic episode and hadn’t been taking your medication.
“Mr Elias tells me that you need to start complying with societal norms and with probation.”
Stolarski, of Bank Top, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to three counts of assaulting an emergency worker, criminal damage, and being drunk and disorderly and was jailed for two months.
For breaching his suspended sentence in committing the above offences he was jailed for a further 10 months, to be served consecutively, bringing his total time in custody to 12 months.
