Flower bed, Lord Square, Blackburn 1990
HERE’S one for Looking Back readers. Taken in June, 1990, this photo shows Lord Square in Blackburn.
Do you remember the flower bed shaped like a speech bubble?
In the background you can see a sign for Peppermint Place and on theft at the top of the photo are the stairs which led up to the rooftop nightclub.
Often the subject of criticism, particularly in the last few years of its existence for its tired appearance, Lord Square disappeared when the shopping centre area was redeveloped in 2008 and The Mall came into being.
Did the flower bed replace the earlier fountain in Lord Square or was that somewhere else?
