Crown Paints has unveiled a striking mural fit for a King at their headquarters in Darwen.

The mural, which is on the corner terrace at Hollins Road, Darwen, pays tribute to the new King and Queen, and was completed on Friday (May 5) to mark the coronation.

The stunning artwork, designed by Crown’s senior designer Justyna Korczynska, features an eye-catching golden crown against a floral blue backdrop, inspired by the coronation emblem and visuals from the official invites for the event.

It also draws on themes from British culture and countryside, featuring bees, acorns, and bluebells, with the paint manufacturer showcasing its own northern heritage in the design through the use of the Lancashire Rose.

The design was painted by Manchester-based duo D&D Walls, comprising Charlie Cross and Stewart Morlington.

The artists have developed a strong reputation across the North West for producing colourful and detailed bespoke wall art.

Katie McLean, marketing director UK & Ireland for Crown, said: “We’ve been Royal Warrant holders for the entirety of Queen Elizabeth’s reign so it’s only fitting that we celebrate our new monarch in some way.

“The mural has been designed by Justyna to bring a fresh injection of colour to Darwen. It showcases blue, identified by our trend experts as the colour of the moment, because it’s associated with royalty, trust, and leadership, making it ideal for really bringing to life the spirit of the event.

“It’s been great to see great to see members of the local community speculating about what the artwork will look like as it’s progressed, and Stu and Charlie’s masterful execution of our design hasn’t disappointed.”

The paint manufacturer has been an integral part of the Darwen community since 1777, and still has a large presence in the town.

This isn’t the first time that Crown has updated the mural to celebrate the Royal Family, in 2012 the wall was decorated with a bright Union Jack flag to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The new mural replaces the pandemic themed artwork produced by local artist Kieron 'Curly' Whitehead.
