Nelson Town Council are running a free event to celebrate the King's Coronation which will include a giant screen live streaming the historic day.
On Saturday, May 6, residents across East Lancashire are all invited to watch the momentous occasion together on the screen which will be located by the Shuttle in Nelson town centre.
The Coronation of King Charles III at Westminster Abbey, will take place at 11am, with the ceremony set to begin once the royals have completed their arrival procession from Buckingham Palace, which gets underway from 10:20am.
Nelson Town Council's own procession will start at 10am, with the Town Cryer starting proceedings, before the procession led by the world famous Accrington Pipe Band leaves Nelson Library on its way to the Shuttle.
Over 4,500 primary school and nursery children have been invited to decorate special crowns ahead of the event, before wearing them in the procession from 10am, with the winner set to receive a trip to London worth £400.
The children have also received special memorabilia boxes including a souvenir bookmark, specially produced metal souvenir badge as well as a picture and biography of King Charles III.
The procession is part of a day of free, fun-filled, family activities taking place in Nelson town centre, including a main stage featuring The Take That Experience, fairground rides, face painting, a crown making workshop, roaming street artists, a throne and backdrop for selfies, plus much more.
Other delights on offer include various food stalls, High Tea will be available, ice cream, traditional Hook a Duck and a specially designated grass picnic area where you can bring your own food around the famous Shuttle, or eat locally from one of the many local eateries, hostelries and food providers, to encourage visitors to shop local whilst watching the ceremony.
Councillor Faraz Ahmad, chairman of the Events Committee at Nelson Town Council, said: "We would like to invite all our local residents and those further afield to come together and watch the live Coronation on our giant screen, right here in Nelson town centre.
"This is going to be an incredible community event and with a number of brilliant free activities taking place throughout the day, and we would love to celebrate the occasion together, starting with our procession and then the main event itself… the Coronation of King Charles III."
