Teen cycling sensation Katie Lawson has gone on to win even more events in two national competitions.
The 13-year-old from Clayton-le-Dale took three wins in a row when she competed in the under 14s race at Cheshire’s Oulton Park two weekends ago, and following this, went to Carmarthen to ride a National Youth Omnium Series, where she won all five of her track races there.
Her father, Tim Lawson, says she now has a chance of leading the National Series, but thinks it’s taken Katie some time to come to terms with how good she is.
The teenager has been competing in Cyclocross events since she was five years old, and in 2018 rode her way to glory at the Great Harwood Showground, when she took part in the North West Cyclocross Association series competition aged just eight.
Earlier this year, she learned how to ride the velodrome and has been riding in the Monday night track league in Manchester, which seems to have brought her speed on.
Tim said: “I knew she was going well as I really struggle to keep up when we go out on the road, especially when the road goes uphill.
“I will either have to increase my training or get an e-bike.
“I think it has taken her some time to come to terms with how good she is. We’re really proud of her.”
