A wedding television show, that was filmed in the Ribble Valley, is officially on screens and dozens of businesses are proud to put their home county on the map.

Wedding Valley first aired on the W channel earlier this month and a new episode airs every Wednesday at 9pm.

The 10-part series takes an in-depth look at the thriving wedding industry of the Ribble Valley, which has become a hotspot for nuptial celebrations.

With a stunning, rural backdrop and a huge concentration and variety of wedding venues in one small area, it's attracted a thriving community of cake makers, florists, dress shops and stylists.

Dozens of local businesses have taken part in the series and the Lancashire Telegraph caught up with some of them to see how the experience went.

Amelia’s Bridal, a bridal shop in Clitheroe, played a huge part in the show, dressing couples in several episodes.

They helped dress Great Harwood's Niamh and Sam Starkie, who tied the knot last year and featured on the show.

Owners Joanne Driver and Kelly Dixon said they were honoured to be part of it.

Joanne said: “We were a central part of the show – and we looked like nut bags [sic] on it too.

“I would like to say they chose us to take part as we are a well-known shop in the Ribble Valley.

“We are also one of the longest standing bridal shops in the area.”

Kelly said it was nerve-racking to be in front of a camera.

She said: “At first it was quite nerve-wracking to be in front of a camera, but now I think it was a privilege to have been part of something like that .

“In the end it was good fun and you started to forget the cameras were there.”

Joanne said: “We didn’t have too many ‘disaster moments’ on the show but there were definitely occasions when we were cutting it fine for time and deadlines, such as when a bride came in for a last minute alterations.

“I think we have done quite a good job of showcasing the wedding industry of the Ribble Valley and how fantastic it is.

“I think everyone should watch the show.”

Leanne Cawtherley, who owns The Sweetest Thing Cakery in Accrington, also features.

Leanne says camera crews spent five months following her as she created wedding cakes for couples.

Leanne said she didn’t suffer many baking disasters during filming but admits there was one tense moment when a cake didn’t turn out quite as she expected.

She said: “One week in June was extremely busy and one of the most hectic I’ve ever had, as I had 12 weddings that week.

“I was exhausted and eager to get the cakes finished. There was one wedding cake I wasn’t happy with as it was leaning to one side.

“When delivering the cake, I had the added pressure of the film crew and the mother of the bride watching and I was nervous.

“The customers loved the cake, it was just something I was personally nervous about.

“Other than that I can’t believe I didn’t have any major disasters.”

Ethan Dowson, operations manager at Mrs Dowsons Farm Park in Clayton-Le-Dale, said it was a great experience.

He said: “We loved being a part of Jack and Alice's big day and actually it was a big day for us too as it was the first wedding we had ever hosted.

“There was only a short period of time between when Jack and Alice approached and the big day itself.

“It was a lot of fun but a lot of preparation was needed to make the day magical.

“We are thrilled that we got to be a part of this amazing experience with many other wedding suppliers in the wonderful Ribble Valley and we hope to plan a lot more weddings in the future.”
