A MAN was detained by members of the public after being disturbed as he attempted to steal from a health and beauty salon.
Blackburn magistrates heard witnesses passing the Dermathetics Salon on Brown Street, Burnley, noticed a glass panel in the door had been smashed.
They then spotted Richard James Croskell crouching down inside the shop.
Croskell, 36, of Royle Road, Burnley, pleaded guilty to burglary with intent to steal and obstructing a police officer in the execution of his duty. He was jailed for 17 weeks and ordered to pay £500 compensation.
Peter Conroy, prosecuting, said witnesses walking past the salon noticed the smashed window and called the police. They noticed Croskell crouching down inside and he was looking towards them.
“He tried to escape but was detained by a member of the public,” said Mr Conroy.
