An East Lancashire couple has featured in a new wedding television show that was filmed in the Ribble Valley.

Niamh and Sam Starkie, who live in Great Harwood, tied the knot last year and their whole wedding was documented on new show Wedding Valley, which started earlier this month.

The 10-part series takes an in-depth look at the thriving wedding industry of the Ribble Valley, which has become a hotspot for nuptial celebrations.

While the couple were nervous about the prospect of camera crews following them around, they said the experience was enjoyable.

25-year-old Niamh, who stars in the second episode of the series, said: “We were quite anxious about the prospect of having a camera crew follow us around for the wedding – it’s not a normal thing to happen.

“We have watched the episode now and think it’s great. It’s interesting to take a look at what goes on behind the scenes that you don’t see in the build up to the wedding.

“We actually didn’t notice the camera crews very much. Family at the wedding said they didn’t notice the cameras at the wedding itself.

“It was strange seeing myself on the show. I was like ‘is that what I really sound like?’

On the episode the couple, who met six years ago while on holiday, visited businesses across East Lancashire including LuLu Browns Bridal Boutique and Amelia’s Bridal.

At Amelia’s they shopped for suits and made sure they were insured in the event of a bucking bronco related tear.

While the series is said to be filled with minor disasters and pitfalls, Niamh said her wedding went without a hitch.

Niamh, originally from Birmingham, said: “My wedding day was perfect. It’s something you build up and worry about but it ended up just being a really lovely day.

“The Ribble Valley is a gorgeous place to get married and I would recommend anyone to get married here.

“It’s nice now to have something to look back on.

“It’s so nice for the Ribble Valley to now be shown off for what it is, especially for people who aren’t familiar with Lancashire.”

Produced by Little Gem, Wedding Valley documents the highs and lows of some of the 1,500 weddings that took place during the 2022 wedding season.

Each episode takes viewers through a typical week in peak wedding season, and all of the passion, drama and hard work that goes into making each couple's wedding dreams a reality.

Many local businesses have taken part in the series including Amanda Waddington, who owns Caked In It in Accrington.

Another baker Leanne Cawtherley, who owns The Sweetest Thing Cakery in Accrington, will also feature.

Natasha Bondy, Little Gem creative director, said: “We're delighted to be working with UKTV on bringing Ribble Valley's stunning scenery, and dramatic and diverse wedding stories to W viewers.

“Our amazing cast are hard-working and heart-warming and we can't wait for everyone to see what a fun, warm and compelling show Wedding Valley is set to be.”

Wedding Valley is available to watch on channel W and all episodes available to stream for free on UKTV Play.
