A man has been charged for a public order offence and also for trespass and refuse to quit, an offence under an 1840 act, following an incident at Preston railway station.

The 53-year-old man refused to follow safety instructions from staff and was told to leave the station by officers from the British Transport Police.

He failed to do so and repeatedly came back, leading to him being arrested under the ancient law as well as a public order offence due to his behaviour.

After spending a night in a cell he was interviewed and charged with both offences.

A spokesperson for BTP Lancashire said: “He was given every opportunity to just walk away. Now he’ll have to explain himself to the magistrates.”
