A 21-year-old woman from Blackpool has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is being questioned at Bonney Street police station.

Detective Superintendent Kevin Toole from the Force Major Investigation Team, said: "At this stage I am not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident and I believe that the two people involved were well known to each other.

"I have been able to recover, what I believe is the weapon that caused the injury and crime scene investigators at the location are carrying out various tests."

"Although this incident happened in the early hours of the morning I would appeal to any local residents or anyone who was driving in the area who may have witnessed something to contact us.

"As the investigation progresses all information will be extremely important to me as I try to establish exactly what happened.

"I would also like to reassure the public that from what I know already, this is very much an isolated incident confined to one residential address."
